Husqvarna Trimmer Targets Homeowners
Husqvarna’s battery handheld 200 Series of products come designed primarily for the homeowner. They still manage to feature some of the best aspects of their Pro models, however. That includes a lightweight design and plenty of power. The Husqvarna 220iL 40V battery-powered string trimmer edger weighs less than 10 pounds, making it one of the lightest trimmers in its class. We already think Husqvarna makes one of the best weedeaters in the industry with their Pro models. This tool quickly had us intrigued.
Husqvarna 220iL Balance and Weight
One of the things we’ve really enjoyed about Husqvarna battery-powered tools has been the effort placed on their balance. Rather than hanging off the back of the tool somewhere, Husqvarna designs their string trimmers so that the battery fits in the center of the tool. In this case, the result yields an exceptionally well-balanced string trimmer.
Good balance is important when string trimming. It also helps significantly when you flip the trimmer over to edge along flower beds and pavement. With the Husqvarna 220iL, you won’t have to fight against the weight of the tool to keep your lines straight and on course.
Husqvarna also designed the 220iL 40V String Trimmer with a DualDirection trimmer head. This unique feature lets you change your trimmer head’s direction to keep the trimmings off your flower beds and hardscapes. Without this feature, the trimmed clippings only flow in one direction, forcing you to either clean up with a blower or walk on a particular side of the cutting path.
Husqvarna used a brushless motor in the 220iL (as you might expect). To give it a bit more muscle when needed, they also included a Boost button. Pressing this gets you 20% more power for a maximum 6,200 rpm. That should help provide some extra power when encountering heavy overgrowth or wet grass.

The Husqvarna 220iL 40V string trimmer comes as either a kit or a bare tool. Kitted with a battery and charger, the 220iL retails for around $299. As a bare tool, you can pick it up for $199.
