It's going to be tough beat Husky's combination of build quality, capacity, and price.

Overall Score 9.3 (out of 10)

We’re not short on tools around the shop and we’re not short on tool storage, either. We’ve got a literal ton of tool chests, tool cabinets, workbenches, and various other storage options in the shop. It’s pretty great that we’re so spoiled for choice around here. With that said, it probably ought to mean something when we have a few that get used with any sort of regularity. One of the most-used, well-loved tool storage options in the shop is our Husky 56-Inch Tool Cabinet.

Pros

  • Excellent value for the size and capacity
  • Soft close drawers
  • Integrated power strip with USB ports (top chest only)
  • Matte black finish works anywhere

Cons

  • No major drawbacks

Recommendation

It’s tough to beat Husky when it comes to tool storage on this level. You get all the same features as Milwaukee or DeWalt and save several hundred dollars in the process. This is a good fit for everything from the serious DIYer’s to a professional’s garage… and they won’t take anything out of your paycheck every week.

Husky 56-Inch Tool Cabinet

A Huskier Solution

The Husky 56-Inch Tool Cabinet has a lot going for it. From a sturdiness/durability standpoint, it doesn’t seem like this cabinet will blow away anytime soon. Husky constructed it from 18-gauge, heavy-duty, matte black steel. It’s rated to hold up to 2,500 lbs total capacity.

Husky 56-Inch Tool Cabinet

It comes with 23 drawers that provide 42,930 cubic inches of storage. Each of the drawers has been rated for 100 lbs each, and the deep bottom drawers have dual 100 lbs glides so they can hold 200 pounds each.

This Husky model features a lot of creature comforts as well. Each soft-closing drawer comes with drawer liners to protect your tools while keeping them in place.

Pro Tip: Use a spray adhesive when you put your mats in to keep them from sliding around when you close the doors.

It comes with 6 smooth-rolling, 5″ X 2″ caster wheels that lock into place. Like their competition, Husky also puts a power strip with 8 outlets and 2 USB ports to keep your batteries charged up.

Both the tool chest and tool cabinet portions of the Husky 56-Inch Tool Cabinet can be locked.

The Bottom Line

Husky makes a damn good tool cabinet, but the truth is that it’s not wildly different from other tool storage options on the market. It’s 18-gauge steel, has a bunch of great, soft-close drawers, an accessible power supply, and sturdy, easy-rolling casters that lock down. Many popular brands boast these sorts of features as well.

Where Husky shines over and above a lot of other manufacturers comes down to their pricing. Take this, the Husky 56-Inch Tool Cabinet, as an example. It runs $1098 at Home Depot. A short trip around the website proves that another comparably-specced model from a different manufacturer will cost $300-$700 more than this one. When two products offer the same things, with similar builds and quality, I’ll take the less-expensive option. Thanks, Husky.
