Pet Hair And Debris Are No Match For The Hoover Evolve Pet Elite Cordless Vac
With two dogs and a couple of kids in my home, a reliable vacuum is an absolute must-have. Until recently, we’ve relied on our larger corded vac in lieu of a smaller stick vacuum for its higher capacity and greater suction power. The Hoover Evolve Pet Elite Cordless Vacuum offers a blend of power and performance in a smaller, more nimble package—but is that enough to retire my corded model? Let’s find out.
Using The Hoover Evolve Pet Elite Cordless Vacuum
- Canister Capacity: 1 liter
- Runtime: 35 min.
- Cleaning Path: 9.75 in.
- Noise Level: 80 dB
The first thing we want to address is capacity. The Hoover Evolve has a max capacity of 1 Liter—not bad for a stick vac! Hoover’s canister has a dual filtration system that separate fine dust from larger particulates that can reduce suction.
Emptying the canister is easy. Start by removing the canister and release the bottom flap to empty its contents. To clean the separator, open the top flap and pull the larger red cap upward and wipe it down with a clean cloth. To clean the filter, remove it from the canister lid, rinse with water, and air dry for at least 24 hours.
This vacuum has four modes—high, medium, low, and a brush off mode that kicks the suction power to high without using the brush. These modes allow you to seamlessly transition from carpet to hard surfaces, as well as prioritize between max power or longer runtime.
To get started, press the power button with your thumb and then cycle through the modes using the +/- buttons. The small display on the handle will indicate your current mode.
During our testing, this vacuum performed quite well, transitioning from tile to carpet with ease. As we’ve seen from other stick vacs, the head is very nimble and easily flexes around table legs and chairs. Additionally, its low profile design allows you to lay the vacuum flat for cleaning under furniture more effectively than a standard upright vac. While there are certainly more powerful vacuums in Hoover’s lineup, the Evolve Pet Elite cordless vacuum is much more convenient and is very effective on household messes.
Hoover Evolve Pet Elite Cordless Vacuum Design Notes
- Model: Hoover BH53801V
- Power Source: Hoover ONEPWR 20V battery
- Weight: 7.7 lbs. (bare), 9.2 lbs. (with 4.0Ah battery)
- Height: 44.6 in.
- Width: 11.2 in.
This cordless vac tips the scales at 9.2 pounds with Hoover’s 20V 4.0Ah ONEPWR battery and stands 44.6 inches tall. Unlike many stick vacs, this model can stand upright on its own and doesn’t require any kind of wall mount or stand.
The vacuum head is just over 11 inches wide and features four LED headlights. These lights do a great job of showing debris on hard floors that might otherwise be overlooked.
Whether it’s pet hair or long human hair, you’re going to need to clean the roller from time to time. Hoover takes a really smart approach to their Tangle Guard roller design. Access is easy by pushing down on the release lever and sliding it out. From there, simply run a pair of scissors along one of the hard plastic channels to cut away tangled hair and debris.
Hoover’s pet rating goes beyond just increased suction power. The vac as a whole is made with pet owners in mind. This includes everything from the performance, high-capacity canister, the dual filtration system, and even right down to the lower decibel rating. All of these factors allow you to effectively collect excess hair and pet dander.

The Bottom Line
Hoover is definitely making some big strides with their latest release of cordless vacuums. The Hoover Evolve Pet Elite cordless vacuum successfully bridges the gap between a compact stick vac and a full-size model by offering increased capacity and suction power. It’s very effective on both carpet and hard surfaces, but there are some limitations when it comes to runtime. With that said, If you have a larger home, your corded vac may still get some action. While any home can benefit from using it, those of us who consistently need to collect pet hair or long human hair will notice the biggest improvement.
