Honda Battery-Powered Lawn Mowers

Honda Announces Six Battery-Powered Mowers Joining the Lineup in 2025

Back in 2022, Honda announced that its long run of manufacturing gas-engine lawn care products would come to an end, citing forces like environmental regulation and shifting customer preferences. After exiting the gas lawn mower market in 2023, the big question for Honda OPE fans was, “what’s next?

That question was answered at Equip Expo 2024, where the brand announced a new lineup of pro-grade battery-powered lawn mowers. Since they don’t launch until spring 2025, I wanted to go over each new Honda battery-powered lawn mower model ahead of their release to help you decide if you’re ready to ditch the gas can.

Honda Battery-Powered Walk-Behind Mowers

Honda HRN-BV

The Honda HRN-BV battery-powered lawn mower features a 1.5kW brushless motor that offers a gas equivalence of 170cc. It delivers blade speeds of up to 2800 RPM, and its high torque design ensures it won’t bog down in tall, thick grass. This mower is self-propelled, with Smart Drive technology that offers variable speed settings. You can mow at speeds of up to 3.8 MPH.

The deck is 21 inches wide and comprised of heavy-duty steel to withstand tough mowing conditions. Using the 8.0Ah battery that’s included with the mower, you can expect up to 30 minutes of runtime. Honda expects the HRN-BV to become available starting in spring 2025.

  • 1.5 kW brushless motor
  • Max blade speed: 2800 RPM
  • Smart Drive self-propelled
  • Variable speed
  • Five adjustable positions
  • Two height adjustment positions
  • Speed: 0 – 3.8 MPH
  • 8-inch wheels
  • 21-inch steel deck
  • Folding handle for storage

Honda HRX-BV

The HRX-BV lawn mower also has a 1.5kW brushless motor, delivering blade speeds of up to 2800 RPM. It features a speed-control dial that Honda is calling Select Drive, which lets you set your walking pace up to 4 MPH. A 4-in-1 design also allows you to bag, shred, mulch, or discharge your clippings, and you can even mulch and bag simultaneously using the Clip Director function.

With the included 8.0Ah battery, you can run this mower for up to 30 minutes per charge. Like the previous entry, the HRX-BV features a 21-inch deck, although instead of steel, Honda opted for a NeXite construction, which resists dents, rust, and corrosion. You can find this mower at your favorite Honda dealer starting in spring 2025.

  • 1.5kW brushless motor
  • Max blade speed: 2800 RPM
  • Select Drive speed dial
  • Speed: 0 – 4 MPH
  • 4-in-1: mulches, bags, discharges, and shreds clippings

Honda HRX-BE

Like the previous two entries on this list, the Honda HRX-BE battery-powered lawn mower uses a 1.5kW brushless motor to deliver blade speeds up to 2800 RPM. It features a variable speed function that enables you to adjust your mowing speed up to 4 MPH. Like the HRX-BV, this mower has a 21-inch NeXite deck and a 4-in-1 design for clipping disposal.

What sets this model apart is its Blade Stop System, which stops the blade without shutting off the motor. This lets you step away to empty the bag or move items out of your mowing path. Additionally, Honda designed this mower with a dual-battery bay, allowing for a second battery to double your runtime. The HRX-BE includes a 12.0Ah battery that lets you mow for up to 45 minutes on one battery or 90 minutes on two batteries.

  • 1.5kW brushless motor
  • Max blade speed: 2800 RPM
  • e-Select Drive electronic transmission
  • Dual-battery bay

Honda HRC-BE

Wrapping up the walk-behind section is the Honda HRC-BE, the only designated commercial-grade model in the lineup. Honda describes it as more powerful than its residential counterparts, a claim which is backed up by this mower’s larger 2.0kW brushless motor. It delivers top blade speeds of 2800 RPM, and you can set your mowing pace up to 4 MPH.

Like the HRX-BE mentioned above, the HRC-BE features Honda’s Blade Stop system, which stops the blade without the need to turn off the motor. With the included 12.0Ah battery, it can run for up to 45 minutes. However, also like the HRX-BE, it features a dual-battery design that lets you add another battery to double your runtime. You can expect this mower to be released along with the rest of Honda’s battery-powered walk-behind mowers starting in spring 2025.

  • 2.0kW brushless motor
  • Max blade speed: 2800 RPM
  • Commercial-grade mower
  • Cruise control

Honda Battery-Powered Zero-Turn Mowers

HZ60SXB ZTR Mower

Honda Mower

Along with the four new walk-behind mowers, Honda announced two battery-powered zero-turn lawn mowers at Equip 2024, with the main difference between the two models being size. Up first is the HZ60SXB, which has a 60-inch cutting deck. It utilizes 5 separate electric motors—three control the MicroCut twin blades, and two control the maneuverability. Each of the six total blades spins at up to 2700 RPM, cutting and re-snipping grass into small pieces as you mow.

The HZ60SXB features six 48V batteries, each providing 19.2kW/h of energy. Honda tells us this unit has the capacity to mow up to 15 acres on a full charge in ideal conditions. For traveling speeds, it reaches up to 10 MPH going forward and 5 MPH in reverse. While mowing, it has a max speed of 6 MPH.

  • MicroCut twin-blade system
  • Cut height: 1.5 – 5 inches
  • 15 height settings
  • Five separate brushless motors
  • Max blade speed: 2700 RPM
  • Six 48V battery packs
  • Touch-screen display
  • Forward speed: 0 – 10 MPH
  • Mowing speed: 0 – 6 MPH
  • Reverse speed: 0 – 5 MPH
  • 60-inch deck
  • Runtime: up to 15 acres per charge

Price: TBA, available in 2025

Honda HZ54SXB ZTR Mower

As mentioned above, the main difference between Honda’s new battery-powered zero-turn lawn mowers is their size. The HZ54SXB has a 54-inch cutting deck and utilizes the same twin-blade system as its big brother. However, the blades are slightly smaller, at 19 inches each, to accommodate a smaller deck width. As such, they spin faster, reaching top speeds of 3,042 RPM.

Like the HZ60SXB, this 54-inch model also features six 48V batteries. On a full charge, you can expect to mow up to 14 acres in the lowest power setting. Additionally, it keeps the same speed specs as the 60-inch mower, with max forward speeds of 10 MPH, reverse speeds of up to 6 MPH, and top mowing speeds of 5 MPH.

  • MicroCut twin-blade system
  • Cut height: 1.5 – 5 inches
  • 15 height settings
  • Five separate brushless motors
  • Max blade speed: 3042 RPM
  • Six 48V battery packs
  • Touch-screen display
  • Forward speed: 0 – 10 MPH
