Hitachi Power Tools announced on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 that they will now offer a 10-Year Lithium Ion Tool warranty. Hitachi cordless power tool are designed to high standards and are carefully tested for both performance and durability. Since they believe so much in their tools they are going to offer this new 10-year Lithium Ion tool warranty to the original purchaser on all HXP Lithium Ion cordless tools.
The good news is that this 10-year Lithium Ion tool warranty is retroactive and applies to Lithium Ion tools purchased since their initial launch back in August of 2006. People who have purchased applicable Cordless Lithium Ion tools before this 10-year warranty announcement will automatically be covered and are not required to register or re-register their tools.
Tools that are now covered under this 10-year warranty include the following cordless Lithium Ion types:
- Driver Drills

Hammer Drills

Impact Drivers

Impact Wrenches
-
Circular Saws
-
Jig Saws
-
Reciprocating Saws

Blowers
Unfortunately some exceptions do apply; Cordless Lithium Ion Grinders, Cordless Lithium Ion Rotary Hammers and Cordless Lithium Ion Gas Nailers are still covered by Hitachi’s 1-year warranty.
The tool packaging will undergo a design change to show the new 10-Year Warranty. In the meantime, existing packaging already produced and available for sale in the retail market may still show the 5-Year Warranty on the box. Regardless of the packaging, revised or not, Hitachi is covering all applicable Lithium Ion tools under the new warranty.
Here is where the fun starts, after looking around the web, some folks are saying the batteries are included in this warranty. This is not true. The official scoop on the HXP Lithium Ion batteries that these tools use is here from the official press release:
