The Hilti VC 2D-22 Vacuum Cleaner Joins the Nuron Lineup
Over the last few years, Hilti has been migrating many of their older 22V tools into the Nuron lineup. So far, our experiences have been positive, as many of the tools also received a boost in overall performance and design. Now, I’m diving into the details of the updated Hilti Nuron VC 2D-22 vacuum cleaner so you can decide if it’s right for you!
Pros
- Compact design
- Includes shoulder strap for easy transport
- Excellent hose and accessory management
- Quiet operation
- Two power modes
Cons
- Can’t handle wet applications
Hilti Nuron VC 2D-22 Vacuum Performance
- Air Flow: 74 CFM
- Max Vacuum Pressure: 1.6 PSI (44 IOW)
- Capacity: 4L
- Filter Cleaning: Manual
Suction Modes
Like the Hilti VC 140-2-22, this vacuum features two suction modes—Max and Eco. Max gives you up to 74 CFM, and 1.6 PSI of suction power to work with, which is pretty impressive for this power level.
Shifting over to Eco mode reduces the overall suction power, but will result in longer runtime. With that said, Eco mode is still more than capable of collecting wood chips, dust, and other smaller debris without issue.
Capacity
This vacuum has a max capacity of 4 liters, or roughly 1 gallon. Hilti tells us you can collect up to 7 pounds of dust, making it useful for concrete dust collection and small jobsite cleanup.
Keep in mind that this vacuum is only intended for dry material, as wet applications will damage the filter and decrease overall performance.
Filter Cleaning
One key difference between this vacuum and the VC 140-2-22 dust collector is the filter cleaning mechanism. While the VC 140-2-22 features an automatic cleaning system, the Hilti VC 2D-22 sports a manual cleaning button that temporarily interrupts suction in order to dislodge dust and debris from the filter. This action helps you maintain peak performance and speed-up your clean-ups.
Noise Level
If there’s one thing I hate in this world, it’s a noisy vacuum. In fact, I always wear earplugs when I use my large shop vac in my workshop or during household projects.
Hilti clocks in with at a respectable 79 dB(A) at max power, and 67.2 dB(A) on Eco mode. The noise level was so low using both modes that I was able to maintain a normal conversational volume in our shop during testing.
The big deal here is that you could comfortably use this vacuum in enclosed spaces, residential jobsites, and other spaces that are sensitive to excessive noise.
Runtime
Hilti doesn’t explicitly state an exact runtime for this vacuum, but based on our experience with similar vacs, I’d say you can expect to get a full day’s work on a single charge. Granted, this is assuming you don’t leave it running constantly. If that is your intended use, you may consider picking up an extra battery.
This vacuum is compatible with all Hilti Nuron batteries, so, the bigger the battery, the longer runtime you can expect. Here’s what Hilti has to say:
- 2.50Ah (B 22-54): $84.00 each (Lightweight, but not recommended due to low runtime)
- 3.95 Ah (B 22-85): $114 each (Lightweight, but not recommended due to low runtime)
- 7.90Ah (B 22-170): $174 each (recommended, balances weight and runtime)
- 11.85Ah (B 22-255): $204 each (best for long-duration runtime, but does add additional weight)
Hilti Nuron VC 2D-22 Vacuum Design Notes
- Model: Hilti VC 2D-22
- Power Source: Hilti Nuron B 22 battery
- Weight: 10.1 lbs (bare tool), 13 lbs (with B 22-170 battery)
- Length: 16 in.
- Width: 9 in.
- Height: 11 in.
Size and Weight
The Hilti VC 2D-22 weighs in at 10.1 pounds as a bare tool, and 13 pounds with the recommended B 22-170 battery. That’s slightly heavier than some of the comparable vacs in this class, but since this model has a lower capacity, and is only intended for dry applications, weight shouldn’t be a major pain point.
In terms of size, this vacuum measures 16 inches wide, 9 inches deep, and stands 11 inches tall. While it is slightly on the heavier side, its compact profile more than makes up for it in the long run.
Hose and Attachments
When it comes to hose and accessory management, Hilti keeps things pretty simple. The hose wraps neatly down and around the end of the vacuum, and then clips to the top. Additionally, the fan and crevice nozzles are stored right on the tool, reducing the chances of losing them on the job.
When it’s time to clean, the hose extends up to 8 feet and has an angled nozzle for cleaning flat surfaces. The hose actually clicks into the top of the vacuum, so you can extend the hose without it coming loose while you work.
Since there are no extension wands, any floor-level vacuuming you do will have to be on your knees. But, Hilti also includes an adjustable shoulder strap, making it easy to carry the vac and keep both hands free.
One thing I really love is that the overall profile is very sleek. The hose sits below the top of the tool, and the nozzles don’t jut out from the sides. This makes it very easy to store and doesn’t take up any unnecessary space in a crowded workshop or van.
Hilti Nuron VC 2D-22 Vacuum Price
The Hilti VC 2D-22 retails for $269 as a bare tool. When it comes to kits, Hilti utilizes an à la carte system that allows you to customize the kit to fit your needs. For instance, if you wanted to add in a B 22-170 battery and a C 6-22 115V charger, the total price comes out to $620.
For our fleet and tool crib managers, Hilti does offer special fleet pricing for this dust extractor. This comes out to $8.37 per month as a bare tool and comes with no-cost repairs, one-day turnaround, and theft coverage. Of course, adding batteries and chargers will increase the monthly price.
The Bottom Line
While the Hilti Nuron VC 2D-22 vacuum cleaner isn’t a massive upgrade from the previous iteration, it does offer quiet, efficient performance in a compact package. The two power modes and sleek accessory management system allows you to quickly collect dust and small debris, while maintaining a tidy workspace. The VC 2D-22 offers Pros a highly portable cleaning solution to get dry, lightweight debris cleaned up quickly without the need to drag around a cord.
