The Hilti Nuron High-Torque Drill Delivers Impressive Torque and Speed
We recently got the opportunity to put the Hilti Nuron SF 10W-22 High-Torque Drill through its paces here at our shop, and the results definitely raised a few brows. But since it’s not out on the open market quite yet, we wanted to give you our thoughts so you’re ready to pull the trigger when they hit the shelves.

Hilti Nuron Cordless High-Torque Drill Performance
- No-Load Speed: 0-330/560/1300/2230 RPM
- Max Steel Drilling Capacity: 13mm
- Clutch Settings: 15
Hilti has a tendency to craft a really reliable tool and go for a feature that’s more practical than flashy. The Hilti SF 10W-22 isn’t any different in this regard; it’s a pretty bare-bones drill.
They check off the basics with an all-metal keyless chuck, a brushless motor, an LED light, and a mechanical selection switch for choosing your preferred gear. It has a top speed of 2,230 RPMs and 15 clutch settings for your delicate fastening tasks. There’s also Active Torque Control, which is a fancy way of saying that it has anti-kickback protection. In a drill that’s as powerful as this, reducing your risk of injury in a bind-up is a pretty big deal.
There are a couple of areas that stand out, though. The first is that you have 4 speeds to work in and the lowest is intentionally geared low enough for mixing. Essentially, it’s like having the advantages of a 3-speed drill with a mixing mode. That extra middle speed gives you a shot at working faster with larger bits in softer materials.
We witnessed this tool’s brute strength in action during our latest run of drill tests. Out of the almost twenty drills we tested, the Hilti SF 10W-22 was the ONLY one to fully drive a 10 x 1/2 inch hex head lag bolt into our stacked OSB block. This drill produces an immense amount of torque so it’s a perfect choice for your heavy-duty drilling applications.

There’s no denying that the Hilti SF 10W-22 is a bigger, heavier tool than your everyday drill driver. Part of that is the quality of the components they use, not to mention its heavy-duty qualifications.
With a Nuron B22-170 battery, it weighs 7.7 pounds and measures 9-1/2 inches from tip to tail. Keep in mind that Hilti utilizes an a la carte system for their batteries and chargers so if weight is heavy on your mind, smaller battery options are available.
As far as feel goes, the grip is draped in a smooth rubber overmold and contours well to my medium size hands. Hilti also includes a large 12 1/2-inch auxiliary handle to help stabilize and support the drill during demanding applications.

The Bottom Line
The Hilti SF 10W-22 High-Torque Drill shows off some massive muscle and is no slouch on speed, either. Its combination of 4 speeds and Active Torque Control add features that genuinely make a difference when you’re using it. It’s no surprise that it’s larger and heavier than most, but it’s working at a very high level. If your daily drill driver isn’t quite up to the task, adding this high-torque drill to your tool belt is a no-brainer
