Hilti 18V Battery Packs Gain an Unfair Advantage from High Density Cells and New Charger
New Hilti 18V battery packs now claim to deliver up to 80% longer run time thanks to high density lithium-ion technology. We’re going to assume that the 80% claim is against competitor’s batteries. When it comes to testing with tools like Hilti’s 4-Speed Drill and 18V Impact Driver, it’s been pretty clear that they’re not on an even playing field with everyone else. To get even more out of their batteries, well, that’s just not fair (unless of course you own Hilti 18V tools).
Hilti B 18/5.2 Li-Ion and B 18/2.6 Li-Ion battery packs are being built with higher density cells (Metabo recently went the same direction) and use smart software that monitors and controls each cell to protect it against overheating while providing optimal performance and charging.
At 2.6 amp hours and 5.2 amp hour respectively, you’re going to get more work done with the new Hilti 18V battery packs than a lot of the competition can promise. These batteries’ higher and more reliable output allows Hilti tools to handle larger loads with consistent performance. Reading between the lines, it sounds like we can expect some higher performance cordless tools coming from Hilti in the future.
The batteries have a Low Temperature Module that allows for dynamic voltage regulation when temps dip below zero. This feature ensures that the batteries provide the same level of power in cold-weather applications as in warmer temperatures – a major hurdle to overcome. The electronics are sealed against moisture, dust and debris. The battery housing is built using glass fiber with an outer, rubberized, soft grip for that helps out with grip and the accidental drop or impact.
As with their other batteries, these new Hilti 18V battery packs come with an LED state-of-charge indicator so the operator knows exactly how much power is left. They’re also capable of charging up to 75% in the first 20 minutes.

Hilti Multi-Bay Charger C4/36-MC4
The new Hilti Multi-Bay Charger C4/36-MC works with all Hilti lithium-ion batteries (though 12V batteries will need an adapter) and is designed to keep contractors productive for the entire work day. The smart charger filters all power to the first battery placed on the charger. In just 25 minutes, the charger can kick the battery up to 80% capacity. Once the first battery is completely charged, the system then charges the remaining batteries in the order they were installed.
The Multi-Bay Charger helps avoid power strips and cords laying around for multiple chargers. It stands up to tough jobsite environments and lays claim to best-in-class performance in cold weather conditions.
