HART 6-inch Bench Grinder Makes Sharpening Your Tools Easy On Your Wallet
Angle grinders are great tools, but every shop needs a bench grinder. From sharpening mower blades to chisels, you’re better off with a stable grinding platform. We installed the HART 6-inch bench grinder in our shop to see how well this budget-friendly option runs.
HART 6-inch Bench Grinder Performance
HART continues to expand its power tool line to more completely encompass the needs of DIYers. This grinder’s 2.1-amp induction motor spins the two abrasive wheels (36 and 60 grit) up to 3,500 RPMs which is toward the top end for a 6-inch model.
One trade-off is there is no speed control option like you might find on higher-priced models. We primarily use the grinder for sharpening mower blades, chisels, certain accessories, and even bow fishing arrow tips (Kenny has some odd hobbies). In all of those tasks, we’ve been able to get the results we’re looking for.
Pro Tip: Bench grinders have two wheels: one coarse and one fine. For blades that need a lot of attention, start with the coarse side first (usually the left) and then hone in the edge on the fine wheel.
HART 6-Inch Bench Grinder Design Notes
Vibration Control
Too much vibration on a bench grinder can lead to poor results or even damage to your tool or injure you. The vibration level on HART’s bench grinder is low and its four rubber feet help to absorb vibration and keep the wheel running smoothly against your tool’s edge.
Size and Weight
Side to side, this bench grinder measures just over 12 inches and stands about 10 inches tall. Since this isn’t a hand tool, the weight isn’t too much of a big deal but for all interested parties, it weighs 15.1 pounds.
Accessories
HART includes a few helpful accessories in the box to make this grinder a little easier to use. Both wheels have an adjustable plastic spark shield with an integrated battery-powered LED worklight as well as an adjustable work rest.
The light/guard assembly is plastic and while it’s absolutely fine for typical DIY use, those of you needing a grinder more frequently may want something more robust.
HART 6-Inch Bench Grinder Price
This HART 6-inch bench grinder retails for $49.88 and carries a 3-year limited warranty. As with all HART products, this is a Walmart exclusive so be sure to check it out either online or in-store.
Even value-priced bench grinders can run $70 – $100, and professional models go up from there, so the $54 price tag certainly got our attention.
The Bottom Line
HART nails the needs of a DIY bench grinder with smooth performance and a price that’s easy on your budget. What it lacks in design compared to higher-priced models, it more than makes up for in value.
