Further, rather than the chunky feel of most of the plug-in rotary tools you might be used to, the Hart Rotary Tool features a handheld pen-style shaft. It feels light, and it’s comfortable to grip. You can maneuver it easily when removing material or polishing. It also features a spindle lock that makes it easy to change out bits.

Speaking of bits, the Hart HPRL01 includes 33 accessories. The kit gives you a variety of bits for sanding, grinding, sharpening, buffing, and cutting. You can store your more commonly-used accessories in the storage space on the top (front) of the unit. Your other accessories can remain in the tray that tucks neatly underneath or behind the unit—depending on how you have it oriented.

Our Thoughts

Having used several rotary tools in my time, I love the idea of a kit that runs off a battery. These tools really work well as portable solutions for projects and punch lists. As much as I love sitting on a stool at my workbench, being able to take a rotary tool along with me to grind or detail sand a piece really helps. We’ve even used them to tweak and repair marine motor parts.

Of course, you also get a great tool for wood carving and engraving—and sometimes that can be nicer to do at a table outdoors. Not having to drag a cord makes for a tool that you can use and enjoy literally anywhere.
