Greenworks 24V Cordless Trim Router Carves Out Time For Woodworking
Cordless routers are a dream come true for many carpenters and woodworkers. It’s a tool they’ve been dreaming of since the first battery-powered tools came out. There are a lot of options out there and we got our hands on the Greenworks 24V cordless trim router to see what this first-generation woodworking tool is all about.
Greenworks 24V Cordless Compact Trim Router Performance
In terms of speed, this Greenworks 24V compact router uses a brushless motor and can turn 1/4-inch shank router bits up to 30,000 RPM. While it’s not the fastest on the market, it’s a very capable top speed to work with.
The variable speed dial lets you set different speeds and you can dial it all the way down to 10,000 RPM in the lowest setting. The placement of the dial is conveniently on the side so both it and the power switch are in easy reach if you need to make a quick change.
To help you keep your workspace cleaner and keep debris from flying toward you, there’s a plastic chip guard and vacuum port adapter you can install.
Greenworks 24V Cordless Compact Trim Router Design Notes
Size and Weight
Even among other cordless trim routers, Greenworks made an even more compact one. The barrel is agreeably narrow and easier to grip than several Pro-level models we’ve used. Without a battery, it’s only 6 7/8 inches tall.
Bare, the router weighs 3.0 pounds and a 2.0Ah battery brings the total weight to 3.9 pounds.
Controls
We really like how Greenworks arranged the controls because everything is within a natural reach. It has a two-stage power button that includes an electronic lock-out button to prevent accidental activation during transport. Press it to activate the tool, set the speed you want, and then hit the power button to bring the router to life.
Bit Adjustment and Changes
Adjusting the bit height is pretty standard with this cordless router. Just release the base clamp and it’s able to slide freely. The dial on the side can help you get a more precise depth. When you’re finished, push the clamp lever back down to lock it in.
If you happen to have some play even with the clamp lever locked, there’s a nut you can access with the lever open to adjust the tension.
When it comes to bit changes, starting by sliding the base competely off. Hold down the red collet lock button on the side and turn the collet until you feel the detent slip into place. Use the wrench to loosen the collet nut and insert your new bit (the nut doesn’t have to come all the way off). Push the button back in and use the wrench to tighten the collet nut back down, put your base back on, and you’re good to go.
Visibility
One thing Greenworks did really well on this compact router was making the viewing cut out quite large. This, along with the dual LED work lights, provides an excellent view of the bit and material from various angles.

The Bottom Line
Overall, the Greenworks 24V cordless trim router is a compact, easy-to-use option that’s great for light-duty routing. On one hand, it doesn’t have as many bells and whistles as some of the other options out there.
