Greenworks 24V Cordless Stick Vacuum Offers Surprising Suction Power For The Price
Greenworks is well-known for its lawn care equipment and with the expansion of its 24V system, it’s pushing into other areas of home improvement. We got our hands on the Greenworks 24V cordless stick vacuum for some testing and there are plenty of talking points.

Greenworks 24V Cordless Stick Vacuum Performance
Suction Power
Greenworks uses a 500-watt brushless motor that pulls up to 170 air watts of suction. Those are some fancy numbers, but how does it compare to premium stick vacs like Dyson?
Staring with Dyson’s first-gen v8 Absolute ($399.99), it has 115 air watts to work with and it’s $150 more than Greenworks. If you want the latest version ($449.99), you can add another $50 to the price.
You can step up to the V10 Animal ($549.99), and it has 150 air watts. In fact, it’s not until you step up to the $749.99 V15 system that Dyson finally has more suction power (230 air watts).
Other brands aren’t as forthcoming with air watt ratings, so they’re more difficult to compare. That said, we’ve enjoyed using models from Ryobi, HART, and others, and it’s very clear to us that Greenworks has been the strongest of them all.
Runtime
Using the 4.0Ah battery that comes in the kit, you can expect to get up to 45 minutes of runtime at the lowest of the three settings. Medium nets about 17 minutes and high runs for about 10.
If you’re like us and constantly run in the strongest mode, having an extra battery on hand is really helpful when you’re cleaning larger spaces.

Controls
Greenworks uses a very helpful control design. The trigger simply turns the vacuum on or off—you don’t have to hold it down.
When you turn the vac on, the back briefly shows you the battery’s charge percentage and then changes to a runtime estimate based on what mode you’re in. A half-ring of blue LEDs stays on to help you track the battery level as you work.
To change modes, simply touch the interface where you see the + indicator to cycle through the three modes.
Charging Dock
Most chargers aren’t worth their own section in a review, but Greenworks’ charging dock is. It’s primarily designed as a wall mount, and the back plate comes off to make installation easier. Just use a slotted screwdriver to lift the tab below the upper slot and the plate slides down to come off. There are only two holes for screws and they’re in line vertically. That makes installing the plate onto a stud easier.
You can set the vacuum directly on the charger without taking the battery off. 3 contact points on the charger touch matching ones on the handle of the vac to make the connection. It’s a super-convenient feature that we wish all stick vacuums had.
There’s also an active battery slot on the side to keep an extra battery charging.
Below the dock, there’s another slot. That’s for the optional vacuum stand if you’d rather not attach the dock to the wall.
Canister and Filter
The canister holds about 2 cups of dry debris and you should plan on emptying it after each use. It’s an easy operation. Press the release button on the shaft (right below where it says “brushless”) and the canister tilts outward. Twist to unlock it and it’s free of the vacuum.
Alternatively, you can take the shaft off and just hit the release button on the base of the canister to empty it more quickly.
Greenworks includes a true HEPA filter on this vacuum. It’s washable, reusable, and replaceable when the time comes.
Accessory Clip
Like many stick vacs, Greenworks includes an accessory clip that mounts on the shaft. Unlike most, you can put two accessories on it—one pointing up and the other down. They click into place, so you don’t have to worry about either one falling out while you work.

There are several Greenworks stick vacuum configurations to choose from. For starters, you can choose between the white/gray color scheme of the vac in this review or you can go with a green/black look. Personally, we prefer the white look, but that’s just a preference.
There are also two different kits. The more basic of the two includes the vacuum, motorized floor brush, 2-in-1 round brush, soft bristle brush, crevice tool, accessory clip, 4.0Ah battery, and charging station for $259.99.
The second bundle option adds a second 4.0Ah battery and charging stand for $349.99. The stand is nice to have if you don’t want to mount the charger to the wall and it’s always handy to have a spare battery, especially if you’re going to add more Greenworks 24V products to your home.
The Bottom Line
Where other power tool brands have made a very good entry into the stick vacuum market, Greenworks set a higher standard. Its excellent suction power and higher-tech design set it apart from its competitors while maintaining a more attractive price tag than premium brands such as Dyson.
