Festool TS 55 F Track Saw Shifts to Thinner Kerf for Faster Cutting
Festool’s track saw system has been the standard for woodworkers around the world. It’s a design that doesn’t seem like it’s in need of much improvement. However, small changes can have major consequences and the Festool TD 55 F Plunge Cut Track Saw is proof.

There aren’t a ton of changes to the Festool track saw itself. In fact, it looks almost identical to the previous version. The big change is in the blades and the riving knife. Both shift from 2.2 mm to a 1.8 mm thin kerf. Even though the reduction is less than 0.5 mm, it results in cuts that are twice as fast.
There are some changes to Festool’s Guide Rail system as well. While the interface with the saw is the same, there are new holes and slots to work with. Recessed holes down the center are for you to screw the rail to material and ensure it doesn’t shift.
If you’re making a cut that doesn’t allow for screwing, small slots in the track are for adhesive strips. Once you peel the backer off, you can stick the rail exactly where you need it to make the cut.
Finally, a larger slot in the center fits over your Systainer handle and makes carrying your gear from one point to the next easier.
Festool also has a Guide Rail Square available that can miter 60° with standard detents in both directions.

Festool TS 55 F Plunge Cut Track Saw
Look for the TS 55 F to hit Festool retailers on March 25, 2022. The FEQ-F-Plus is $599 and includes the tool, WAF 5 hex key, W42 HW fine tooth saw blade, sight window, splinter guard, and Systainer. The FEQ-F-Plus-FS kit is $699 and adds a 55-inch guide rail.
