How many $99 Festool sanders do you own? If you said anything other than “none”, you probably bought it used. That’s because Festool sanders just aren’t made at this price point. However, for a limited time you’ll be able to get your hands on the Festool Pro 5 LTD sander for $99 – plus a $50 voucher to use on your next Festool purchase.
$99 is a great deal for Festool quality, but what are you actually getting for that price?
Let’s take a closer look.
The Festool Pro 5 LTD is going to do its best work as a finish sander with a 5/64 inch sanding stroke. It’s a compact model that’s easy to use with one hand as you perfect your workpiece. Powered by a 250-watt motor (with a generous 13-foot cord), there’s a variable speed dial for speed control.
If you’ve used Festool products before, you know all about the system mentality. If you haven’t, well, it’s a major benefit of their tools and something you need to experience to truly appreciate. In this case, a major part of the system is dust extraction and the new locking dust port is present here.
Festool includes a couple of finish-saving features on the Pro 5 LTD as well. A pad brake stops the movement more quickly so you’re less likely to damage a freshly finished surface by setting the sander on top of it. They’ve also developed something called Vibration Stop which smooths out the entire process. Smooth handling on your end always ends up with better results on your workpiece.
And of course, it all comes packed neatly in a special blue and green Systainer. At the end of the day, you should really buy several of these if you’re even remotely interested in having a shop with Festool products. You may be hard pressed to do that though. Acme Tools has a strict 2 sander limit for this limited release and several other retailers have stopped taking pre-orders all together due to demand.
Once these officially launch on November 1, it sure looks like they’re going to go quickly. My advice? Pre-order if you can and camp out at your favorite Festool retailer as if it were the new iPhone launch if you can’t.
