Ditch Your Old Gas Can With The All New EGO 42-Inch Lawn Tractor
EGO has some pretty cool additions to their 56V lineup coming up in the next few months, including everything from string trimmers, blowers, augers, snow blowers, and mowers. We want to dive into the latter category and take a look at the EGO T6 Lawn Tractor. As the brand’s first traditional riding mower, we’re going over what this tractor has to offer and how it could benefit you this mowing season.

Cutting Power
The EGO TR4204 lawn tractor features dual brushless and belt-free cutting motors that deliver the equivalent of 21 HP in a gas-powered tractor. Those brushless motors produce up to 3,000 RPMs of top end speed.
For my testing, I ventured over to our neighbor’s overgrown lawn and helped whip it back into shape. This lawn is a mixture of St. Augustine and Bahiagrass with some areas well over 6 inches tall. I set the deck height to 3-1/2 inches and got to work.
To my delight, the mower plowed through the grass with ease and left a very even cut in its wake. Even the denser patches of grass offered little resistance. This gives us a lot of confidence in this mower’s abilities, especially as we’re making our way into mowing season here in Central Florida.
Runtime
This mower is kitted with six 6.0Ah batteries and EGO tells us that we can expect to mow up to 1.5 acres on a single charge. I started with a full charge and mowed nearly a full acre and still had around 15% battery remaining.
Keep in mind, things like mowing conditions, grass height, drive speed, and blade speed will play a role in your overall runtime. With that said, I think this mower’s sweet spot is right around 1-acre. That gives you plenty of capacity to complete your weekly mowing and still have a little juice leftover for hauling debris or simply getting back to the barn.

Driving Experience
Overall, this mower offers a very easy transition from traditional gas-powered models. The steering wheel features a rubberized coating and finger grooves for easy handling.
The seat is comfortable enough for an hour of mowing, but they’re not quite as comfortable as the EGO Z6 zero-turn mower seat. It’s supported by two stout springs and is adjustable forward and backward. Luckily, these mowers are in stock at your local Lowe’s so you can go sit on one and decide for yourself.
Creature Comforts
As with EGO’s other mowers, the T6 has some nice details that add to the overall mowing experience. It comes with two cupholders, one of which can accommodate a larger tumbler, as well as a storage compartment in the hood. There’s also a mesh phone pouch and a USB-A port below the steering wheel, so you can charge your phone while you mow.
Controls
The controls are pretty similar to the other riding mowers in EGO’s lineup. This mower has three drive speeds and two blade speed settings, letting you prioritize between max power and longer runtime based on your needs. Additionally, this is where you’ll find the headlight control button as well as the reverse mowing override.
Looking down, EGO utilizes a single accelerator pedal on the right side and a brake pedal on the left, along with the parking brake lever. Just below the steering wheel you have the shift lever as well the blade activation button.
Mowing in Reverse
When it comes to lawn tractors, there’s typically a special procedure for mowing in reverse for safety reasons. Luckily, EGO made it pretty easy. Simply press and hold the reverse override button for about 5-seconds until the icon disappears from the LCD screen. Once the icon is no longer illuminated, you can mow in reverse.
Accessories
This mower comes equipped with a steel front bumper as well as an accessory hitch that attaches to the rear. The hitch is compatible with standard yard trailers as well as EGO’s bagging attachment.

The Bottom Line
Making the switch to a battery-powered lawn mower can be intimidating, especially since most options on the market are zero-turns. The EGO 42-inch lawn tractor is an approachable and refreshingly simple mower that won’t let you down on yard day. Its feature set isn’t as extensive as some other battery-powered mowers out there, but there’s no question that it has the muscle for the job.
