If you ever used a Dremel 3000 rotary tool then you’re probably a “believer”. If you ever used a Dremel tool but never used a cordless model (like the Dremel 8200-1 rotary tool), you’re definitely in for a treat that will bring a smile to your face. Dremel began as a simple rotary tool that was mainly for hobbyists and people working on little wood projects and creative toys or decorative items. With Dremel exploding their line-up to include router attachments, oscillating tools, Saw-Max handheld circular saws, Dremel VersaTip Butane Torches, and even sanders, the brand has taken on a lot more usefulness to a wider market. Now with rechargeable solutions like the Dremel Minimite 750-02 4.8V Cordless Rotary Tool, the company has truly made headway into the mass market.
The 4.8V Dremel Minimite 750 is a precision tool designed for drilling, sanding, shaping, detailing and other light-duty jobs. Needless to say, you’re not going to want to polish your car with it or sand the outside of your house. The real attraction for this compact, go-anywhere, tool comes in its ability to be used in a charge-and-go fashion. Once the 3-hour charger has readied its removable 4.8V Ni-Cad battery, you’re off to the races. The MiniMite features two speeds (6500 and 13000 RPM) and can be used with any Dremel accessory bit with up to a 1/8″ shank. Since the battery pack is removable, you use additional packs for continuous use. We’ve seen the packs as cheap as $11 on Amazon.com, so there’s no question you’ll get good extended use from this tool.
The Dremel Minimite 750 only weighs about 9 ounces and fits well in the hand. To say it’s easy to wield is an understatement. There is a blue button that easily rest under your finger during use to activate the tool. A switch resides in the middle of the tool that controls the speed of the unit (the middle position is ‘Off’). The retail package comes with the following:
- 4.8V Dremel MiniMite 750 Cordless Rotary Tool
- 3-Hour Battery Charger
- 401 Mandrel
- 432 1/2″ 120 Grit Sanding Band
- Dremel LED Flashlight
- 414 Small Felt Wheel
- 84922 Silicon Carbide Grinding Stone
- Wrench
It’s a robust kit and will get you started on any minor precision projects around the house. Changing bits is a snap with the included wrench and we think that this tool, especially for its sub-$30 price point, is a no-brainer tool for anyone. It’s an especially good fit for those people who like to make crafts of any kind. The Dremel Minimite 750 will even polish metal and jewelry. It’s hard not to like a Dremel—and even harder when it’s cordless.
