Last June, Pro Tool Reviews was privileged to be part of the DeWalt 2015 media event. Clint DeBoer detailed the fun and festive event that includes a visit to NASCAR Hall of Fame and to DeWalt’s manufacturing facility. While in Charlotte, the team was introduced to the new DeWalt Carbon Fiber Composite Box Beam Level.
The new DeWalt Carbon Fiber Composite Box Beam Level is 48 inches long. It is 35 percent lighter compared to its other premium non-carbon fiber composite levels of the same size. The lightweight structure still offers the box beam level maximum strength and accuracy when in use. Like other models regardless of material, the box beam design is a durable build. The level also features slim end caps that allow scribing lines close to the corners while providing protection to the level. End hang holes on either side provide easy storage. Like most box beam levels, this model has 3 vials for plumb and horizontal measuring.
“Carbon fiber is the material of choice in many industries now. In high end racing bikes, we started with steel, moved to aluminum, and now to carbon fiber. Why? Carbon fiber is lightweight and strong while being easy to mold. The DeWalt Carbon Fiber Composite Box Beam Level takes advantage of that lightweight strength. You’ll really notice the difference in overhead applications. Carbon fiber is a more expensive material though, so expect to pay a premium for it.”

The downside is the price as Kenny mentioned. At nearly $100, it’s about twice the price of DeWalt’s other premium non-magnetic level of the same size and style. Still, it’s lightweight, strong, and backed by DeWalt’s 3-year warranty.
