DeWalt 20V Max XR High Precision 3×360 Line Laser Level Review DCLE34033D1

DeWalt 20V XR 3x360 Line Laser Level

The DeWalt 20V XR 3×360 Laser Level Sets a New Standard For Accuracy

Laser levels serve an important role across a variety of industries, especially in new construction and renovations. Well, a few years back, DeWalt introduced the first iteration of this 3×360 laser level and its design and performance definitely impressed our team. Now, they’ve released the updated DeWalt 20V XR 3×360 Line Laser Level, boasting huge improvements in performance and accuracy.

Pros

  • Improved accuracy and range
  • Multiple mounting options
  • Accommodates up to an 8Ah battery
  • Accepts both 12V and 20V batteries
  • Independent diode controls
  • All-day runtime
  • High-visibility green beam

Cons

  • No significant drawbacks

DeWalt 20V XR 3×360 Laser Level Performance

DeWalt 20V XR 3x360 Laser Level
  • Accuracy: +/- 1/8 in. @ 50ft.
  • Visible Range: 230 ft.
  • Max Range: 330 ft. (with detector)
  • Runtime: 10 hrs. (with 2.0Ah battery)
  • Self Leveling: +/- 4°

Visibility

As lasers go, the DeWalt DCLE34033D1 has one of the more impressive ranges that I’ve come across. DeWalt improved the visible range of their previous model from 100 feet all the way out to 230 feet, and 330 feet with the kitted laser detector. That is definitely no small feat!

Accuracy

Accuracy is big deal when comparing laser levels, and for the most part, modern lasers are pretty spot on. Well, DeWalt managed to improve their overall accuracy from 1/8-inch at 30 feet, to 1/16-inch at 50 feet, compared to the DeWalt 20V Max DCLE34030! These improvements have led to DeWalt to categorize the DCLE34033D1 as a “High-Precision” laser.

Micro Adjustment Knob

On the laser’s base, there is a fine adjustment knob, and it’s a huge benefit when you’re setting up vertical beams. Start by getting the beam close to your target, and then use the dial to center it. The operation is much smoother and less clumsy than moving the base by hand and that could save you time.

Runtime

When it comes to runtime, DeWalt tells us you can power all three lasers for around 10 hours with the kitted 2.0Ah battery. That’s more than enough to get you through a full day of work, and you’ll get even more runtime if you’re only using one or two beams.

DeWalt 20V XR 3×360 Laser Level Design Notes

DeWalt 20V XR 3x360 Laser Level Profile
  • Model: DeWalt DCLE34033D1
  • Power Source: DeWalt 12V/20V
  • Weight: 3.25 lbs (bare tool), 4.1 lbs (with kitted 20V 2.0Ah battery)
  • Laser Type: Green

Size and Weight

The DeWalt DCLE34033D1 weighs in at 3.25 pounds as a bare tool, and just 4.1 pounds with the kitted 2.0Ah battery. It measures 9.5 inches in length, and stands 6.5 inches tall.

As far as the overall design is concerned, this laser is pretty unique. The laser housing is separate for the battery bay, and that’s a key distiction from other lasers we’ve reviewed. One of the benefits to this design is that it allows you to use up to an 8Ah battery as a power source without adding much extra bulk to the frame.

Unfortunately, you can’t use FlexVolt batteries, but since this is a 12V/20V system, you are able to use 12V batteries. This voltage combination isn’t too common across the industry, but we’re sure happy to see it here.

Controls

Unlike many laser levels, the diode controls aren’t on the laser housing where we’re used to seeing them. Rather, they’re on the outside of the battery port. Each beam has its own power button, allowing you choose exactly what you need without cycling through with a mode button until you finally get the right combination.

Independent Diode Controls

Switching back over to the laser housing, there’s a dial just below it on the side. This is a fine adjustment knob and it’s a great helper when you’re setting up vertical beams. Start by getting the beam close to your target and then use the dial to center it. The operation is much smoother and less clumsy than moving the base by hand and that could save you time.

Mounting Options

Threaded tripod mounts and DeWalt Tool Connect

DeWalt gives you several ways to mount this laser level, depending on your needs. For use with a tripod, the base pairs with both 1/4-inch and 5/8-inch threads, and there are rear-mounted magnets that allow for flush attachment to metal surfaces.

There are also a few ways to hang this level, including a keyhole mount near the battery bay, and a drop ceiling bracket that can either clip onto metal struts or be screwed directly to a wooden stud. This gives you a ton of versatility across a wide variety of jobsites.

The Bottom Line

The DeWalt 20V XR DCLE34033D1 3×360 line laser level has the accuracy and visibility that we demand from a Pro-grade tool. It’s truly encouraging to see that DeWalt surpass the industry standard on accuracy from 1/8-inch at 30 feet to 1/16-inch at 50 feet! This, along with its impressive range and independently operated beams, makes this laser a real contender for DeWalt.
