DeWalt 12V Wall Scanner (DCT419) Detects 5 Embedded Materials Without Changing Settings
The DeWalt 12V Wall Scanner promises to have several advantages over models from Milwaukee and Bosch. The new hand scanner runs on the DeWalt 12V Max platform of batteries, so there’s no need to worry about having a mess of alkalines in wait. It can scan through 4 surface materials: drywall, wood, concrete, and tile. The DeWalt DCT419 wall scanner lets you know what lies beneath wood, plastic, live unshielded wire, and ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
What about those advantages? Compared to Milwaukee, the DeWalt 12V Max Hand Held Wall scanner detects unshielded live wires and plastic. DeWalt does note that if the wire is low voltage or not live, it may be read as plastic or metal. It features a 3.5″ color screen. You’ll be able to pre-scan an entire section of wall as opposed to a single point.
You’ll also enjoy being able to detect all five materials on a single setting rather than having to switch. Compared to Bosch, the biggest advantages are the 12V Max platform (rather than alkaline batteries) and a much better price. The metal detection is only 3 inches deep on the DeWalt whereas Milwaukee and Bosch both can detect it up to 6″ deep.
All in all, the DeWalt 12V Max finds a balance between the price point of Milwaukee and Bosch while adding some convenience with its single setting detection. For those of you that had a not so pleasant experience with the previous model, you’ll be happy to know that DeWalt worked with end-users on how specifically to improve it.
