Complete Household Fastening Jobs Quickly and Easily with the Craftsman V20 Screwdriver
Homeowners and DIYers can have a tough time deciding what fastening tool best suits their needs. For household jobs that don’t require the higher performance of a drill or impact driver, there are a number of battery-powered tools that fit the bill. Craftsman is making the case for its V20 Cordless 1/4-inch Screwdriver, and I decided to give it a shot and help you decide if it’s worth adding to your toolbox.

The Craftsman CMCF610 cordless screwdriver is part of the brand’s V20 battery system. Its brushless motor produces up to 315 in-lbs of torque and speeds of up to 1080 RPM. At this performance level, it’s in the same realm as a low-power cordless drill but stronger than the average inline cordless screwdriver.
Other performance features include 15 clutch settings to dial in the driving torque and a variable speed trigger to help you feather your speed to the task at hand.
Craftsman V20 Cordless Screwdriver Design
- Dimensions: 4.9 x 2.5 x 7.7 inches
- Weight: 1.6 lbs (bare)
- Tri-beam LED light
- Onboard bit storage
- Versatrack-compatible
- Compatible with all V20 batteries
When it comes to design, the CMCF610 is very reminiscent of a compact impact driver thanks to its 1/4-inch collet and compact size. It’s under 5 inches long and weighs just 1.6 pounds as a bare tool, making it very easy to maneuver and use in tight spaces.
An onboard LED light helps provide more illumination to your working area, reducing shadows thanks to a tri-beam design. Like many similar cordless tools, the light stays on for several seconds after you release the trigger.
Finally, this tool features two magnetic bit holders at the top to hold spare bits and screws while you work.
Craftsman V20 Cordless Screwdriver Price
This cordless screwdriver retails for $89.98 as a bare tool and you can find it at Lowe’s and Acme Tools. There are currently no kit options available, so be sure to pick up a V20 battery if you’re not already stocked up. Craftsman backs your purchase with a 3-year warranty.
Final Thoughts
The Craftsman CMCF610’s performance puts it in an interesting position—its price point is right around what you would pay for a value-focused drill, but it has a lower performance level compared to tools in that category.
If you need that higher performance, something like the V20 CMCD726B Hammer Drill ($99) is likely a better bet. It’s only $10 more, but the performance and versatility are well worth it.
On the other hand, if it’s genuinely low speed you’re after to handle delicate fasteners, the Craftsman 4V 1/4-inch Screwdriver ($29.98) is the way to go. While the CMCF610 outpaces it in terms of power and speed, the 4V model is still good for small household fastening tasks. Plus, it recharges via a USB-C cord and doesn’t require you to purchase a separate battery.
The CMCF610 sits in the sweet spot between these two when it comes to performance. It has the torque for light drilling (be sure to get 1/4-inch hex shank drill bits) and the majority of fastening jobs around the house. At the same time, its small profile gets into tighter spaces than drill and inline screwdrivers while avoiding the vibration and noise of an impact driver.
