Corded Saw Reviews

Corded saws are part of every jobsite that involves framing, trim, or carpentry work. Our corded saw reviews include best miter saws, best corded circular saws, best corded reciprocating saws, jig saws, best portable jobsite table saws, and best table saws. We also review other types of cutting saws like tile saws and metal cutting tools. A saw always needs to be powerful, so we look for corded saws that cut without losing speed or power. More than that, however, a good saw will have plenty of cut capacity, and features that set it apart. That might be a rear fence with tall base support on a miter, or a great fence on a table saw. Also make sure to check out our article about table saw safety tips.

Porter-Cable PC85TRSOK Tiger Saw blade

Porter-Cable PC85TRSOK Tiger Saw Review

The Porter-Cable PC85TRSOK 8.5Amp Orbital Reciprocating Tiger Saw comes ready to cut or rip through just about anything thanks to its ability to switch from reciprocating to full orbital action. Many tradesman might remember the original Tiger-Saw and know that it was a tool to be reckoned with. The big question for us now is if this new lightweight model can live up to its predecessors. Things like an adjustable shoe and a powerful motor are a good start for sure. At first glance this tool seems to be a great bargain because it is high on features and low on price, but before we can recommend this new breed of Tiger Saw we have to spend a little quality time with it just to see how tamed (or rather untamed) it is.

Porter-Cable 450PK Compact Router Combo Kit Review

The Porter Cable 450PK 1.25 HP Compact Router Combo Kit brings a breath of fresh air to the compact router market with plenty of power, quality features and woodworking versatility built in. We were impressed that this pint sized router packs a punch and does a fantastic job at a wide variety of router tasks. Combined with an all machined aluminum body, aluminum fixed and plunge bases, and a very positive depth of adjustment system; we found that a high level of precision can be attained. Thanks to its lightweight construction, and compact size, many trimming, edge round-over and chamfer type cuts can be made with ease and control that can be more difficult to do with a full sized tool. Sure there are instances when a larger sized router is needed but we would bank on the fact that most casual woodworkers and even professionals would benefit from the compact size of this router. We find it pretty easy to recommend the Porter Cable 450PK 1.25 HP Compact Router Combo Kit to anyone.

Have we finally reached the end of the tape measure? With laser distance measures and all manner of future technology, why not a solution that eliminates the measuring and marking of wood for cutting on a miter saw? Why not indeed. SawGear came to market in late 2009 with a tool that has since been seemingly perfected – at least from what we’ve seen in video demonstrations. In any case, we’re looking forward to getting a better look at it first hand at this year’s IBS Expo in Orlando.

Dremel Trio Kit 6800-01 Review

Dremel Trio 6800 Review

At this point we’d have to say that there is no reason not to have a few Dremel tools around the shop. The Trio is yet another product that is simply easy to use and handy for a variety of tasks, from sanding to cutting to routing. The trick with the Dremel is understand its target market. This isn’t a professional’s tool – simply because it’s flexibility precludes it from being the very best at anything that it does – but it IS extremely flexible, and provides a value that is almost unheard of and unseen in the marketplace. Like the MultiMax before it, this is one of those tools that makes a great gift for any DIY or enthusiast.

Milwaukee 6519-31 Sawzall Reciprocating Saw Kit Review

There are a few select products that define entire market segments such as what Skillsaw is to circular saws, Xerox is to copiers and what the Milwaukee Sawzall is to reciprocating saws. Bosch 4310 10″ Dual-Bevel Sliding Miter Saw Preview

The new 4310 10″ dual-bevel sliding miter saw from Bosch builds off the success of its award-winning predecessor, the 4410 and has many of the same features and specifications. Ideal for woodworkers, finish carpenters, remodelers and others, Bosch’s 4310 packs big-saw performance into a more compact and affordable 10″ chassis. The make-or-break measures of any miter saw are the power and speed to get the job done, and the 4310 seems to deliver. Operating at 4,800 RPM (800 RPM faster than the nearest competitor) and powered by a gutsy 15-amp motor, the Bosch 4310 seems to want to sit at the top of its category in a big way.
