CAT Threshold Work Boots: First Impressions
Personally, I tend to prefer a taller boot, but these 6-inch hiker style boots are a very comfortable alternative. The CAT Threshold work boots are a good all-around boot for taking on challenging work environments and terrains.
Right out of the box, these boots are definitely more comfortable than most of the higher-priced leather work boots I’ve worn over the years. They were a little stiff at first, but after about a full day of wear, they loosened up nicely—and over time, they’ll only get better.

Comfort and Fit
For me, ordering shoes online can be a little nerve racking, especially when there isn’t a reliable sizing guide. I typically wear a size 11 regular boot and the CAT Threshold boots were dead on.
These boots have a very snug fit with a secure heel and midsection, but there’s still plenty of room in the toebox for your toes to move around. They also included their Revive Tech insole that provides a little extra comfort during long days on your feet.
Construction
Looking at these boots, it’s clear to me that CAT has their mind set on comfort, as well as durability. The waterproof full grain leather upper is paired with a rugged rubber outsole using cement bonding. Its flexible ERGO midsole is 30% lighter and more shock absorbing than standard EVA foam.
On the outside, double stitched rubber toe and heel caps help with abrasion resistance and increase overall durability. Additionally, there is ample padding around the ankle area to protect you from side impacts.
I’m also happy to report that CAT opted for all-metal riveted eyelets and lace hooks—a big improvement over previous models.
Additional Features
- EH ASTM F2413-18 Rated
- Impact Rated
- Slip and Oil resistant outsole
- Steel toe

The Bottom Line
After wearing the CAT Threshold work boots for a few days, it’s easy to see why they’re so popular. The material choices and construction are solid, and the upgraded metal hardware is a nice plus. This design is great for folks who might be new to work boots or for those seeking value, performance, safety, and comfort all in one package.
