It’s not often that consumers think about range hoods, but technology has been advancing in this area and they are getting better at filtration and lighting for kitchen applications. Broan’s new Evolution Series range hood in particular seem to progress in the areas of better filtering and providing adequate lighting options for those looking for a step up in kitchen design.
When you think about it, the range hood is the primary source of kitchen ventilation and is one of the more inexpensive and easy to manage upgrades you can make. For as little as $200 and a few hours of your time, you can dramatically change the overall environment of the kitchen with a new range hood and get a whole lot for a small investment. Those frustrated with an outdated under-cabinet hood or an over-the-range microwave ventilation system that doesn’t effectively exhaust the odors and smoke from the kitchen or has poor lighting, might have a new option.
“With the new Evolution Broan Series, we wanted to exceed expectations with regards to how a range hood can change the way one cooks and, at the same time, make the kitchen a more inviting place to be for the cook and for family and friends. As the leader in residential ventilation, we have taken our industry knowledge and research and developed a range hood that truly responds to what consumers have told us they want and need.”
– Brian Wellnitz, marketing manager, kitchen ventilation, Broan-NuTone
According to Wellnitz, the range hood does more than just provide ventilation. As you’d expect, Broan has done a bunch of research research to discover what consumers want from their range hood. It turns out that it’s than just ventilation – adequate lighting is also a sought after feature. The new Evolution Broan Series of under-cabinet range hoods uses four halogen lights specially designed to direct light to the cooking surface (we were surprised they didn’t use LED lighting, but that’s a different story). Additionally, it has an automatic light sensor for nighttime safety – eliminating potential bumps and bruises when satisfying a midnight snack craving.
Noise is one of my main pet peeves with range hoods and ventilation systems and Broan touts some of the quietest operation at normal operating speeds – calling them virtually silent (Broan claims a 40 percent sound output eduction over prior models). The Broan Evolution Series offers consumers three models to choose from – the QP1,
QP2 and QP3. This tiered approach provides the flexibility for various budgets without sacrificing key improvements. Each model features enhanced lighting output and an improved capture effectiveness credited to an active filtration area that is up to 40 percent larger than those of other range hoods in the same class. In addition, a sloped bottom design funnels smoke, odor and moisture into the filters. Smooth surfaces and a fully-enclosed bottom reduce grease buildup and easy-to-release, dishwasher-safe filters allow for easy, less frequent cleaning.
