The Makita GMT01 oscillating multi-tool is the first of its kind on the 40V max XGT line. It’s compatible with StarlockMax, StarlockPlus, and Starlock accessories for a variety of applications. This tool reaches speeds from 10,000 to 20,000 SPM with a variable speed dial to set your speed to the task at hand. A 3.6° oscillation angle also enables faster, more aggressive cutting compared to previous (18V) models. For design, Makita made several changes with this new 40V model compared to the previous LXT iteration, including a smaller barrel grip diameter and up to 85% reduced vibration for less hand fatigue.
- Model: Makita GMT01
- Speed: 10,000 – 20,000 OPM
- Anti-Vibration Technology (AVT)
- 3.6° oscillating angle
- On/off slide switch

You can also adjust the front handle grip to several positions to allow more comfortable sanding at a variety of angles and positions.
When used with Makita’s Clamper Set (sold separately), the GSB01 can be used while stationary for more aggressive sanding and shaping, which comes in handy for more intricate pieces. This tool includes a dust bag to collect sawdust as you work, keeping your jobsite or shop free of airborne debris.
- Model: Makita GSB01
- Adjustable large front grip
- 3-inch wide belt
- Max speed: 1540 FPM
- Variable speed dial
- Auto-tracking belt system
- Lock-on trigger

Makita 40V max XGT 16-Gauge Rebar Tying Tool
Makita’s 18V LXT rebar tying tool was a huge time-saver, but the 40V max XGT version takes it to another level. This model steps up to 16-gauge wire. That’s the same you use for manual tying and it results in 65% stronger ties than the 18V model. The XGT model also ties 30% faster, which is impressive considering the 18V was no slouch.
Thanks to the larger gauge wire and XGT power source, the GRT01 can also handle larger rebar and has a deep jaw to accommodate it. You can use on combinations like #11 x #6, #10 x #7, or #9 x #8. Of course, smaller ties like #3 x #3 are also well within this tool’s capabilities.
- Model: Makita GRT01
- Uses 16-gauge wire
- 65% stronger ties
- 30% faster tying
- Deep capacity jaw supports larger rebar
- 3600 ties per charge (2.5Ah battery)
- 245 ties per wire reel

Makita XDefense Tool Management System
While Makita’s XDefense tool management system isn’t a tool per se, it’s still worth discussing. Announced at World of Concrete 2025, this system creates an additional layer of security to help prevent your 40V max XGT tools from theft. Using a computer, you set a pin code that uploads to the ADP13 adapter and then pair it to the battery and tool. The tool will only work with the battery (or batteries) you paired with the same pin code.
You can manage your crib however you like. Assign a gangbox full of tools for a jobsite or assign them to each crewmember—it’s up to you. No matter how you decide to work with XDefense, the data is yours. Nothing gets transmitted back to Makita, ensuring the system you set up is secure.
- Works with all 40V max XGT batteries and tools
- Pairs a specific battery to a specific tool
- ADP13 adapter and computer required
- You set the pairings the way you want
- No data is transmitted back to Makita

Makita 40V max XGT 3/8-inch Metal Hole Puncher
The Makita GPP01 3/8-inch Metal Hole Puncher builds on the brand’s 40V max XGT metalworking lineup. It delivers up to 25% faster speeds compared to the previous iteration, the 18V XPP01. This tool can cut through metal plate up to 3/8-inch thick and stainless steel up to 1/4-inch thick. Makita tells us it delivers hole-punching speeds in as little as 3.8 seconds. When a punch is complete, the punch stop mechanism automatically retracts the die, leading to less downtime. Finally, this version hole puncher brings over convenience features like an ergonomic drill-style handle, auxiliary handle, rubberized soft grip, and onboard LED light.

Makita 80V max (40V max X2) XGT 1 1/8-inch Hex Breaker Hammer
The 80V breaker hammer, like Makita’s other 80V tools, actually runs on two 40V XGT batteries. The higher power draw means they can be pushed further than their single-battery counterparts, leading to higher performance and more runtime. In this case, the GMH04PL delivers up to 53.7 ft-lbs of impact energy and an impact rate of up to 870 BPM. Compared to Makita’s corded HM1812 breaker hammer, the 80V model delivers up to 70% faster breaking. The brand tells us you can expect to break an 8x6x4-inch thick, 5000 PSI concrete slab on a single charge using two kitted 8.0Ah 40V batteries. This model also improves vibration levels, with up to a 30% reduction.
- Model: Makita GMH04PL
- Torque: 53.7 ft-lbs
- Impact rate: 870 BPM
- Up to 70% faster breaking than corded solutions
- 30% reduced vibration
