The Triplett CobraCam USB 3 (USB III) was just announced to replace the CobraCam USB 2. Many inspection cameras, like the General Tools PalmScope are self-supporting, with an onboard screen and the capability to at least view the output from the camera. Some cameras allow you to record on-board as well, and then you can dump the contents of the SD card to your computer’s local hard drive. These are great for remote inspections and when you really need to be ultra-portable. But what if you can’t stay attached to your PC. You avoid the issue of having to transfer your material, and you also don’t have to pay for an LCD screen you’re not using. That means you can pick up an inspection camera for an extremely low price (the Triplett CobraCam USB 2 can be picked up online for under $60). This and the similar Triplett CobraCam Pro solve this issue.
The Triplett CobraCam USB 3 portable inspection camera/borescope connects via USB to just about any operating system, including Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP, Linux and Mac OS X (on the Mac the zoom feature is disabled and you must use Photo Booth). This inspection camera includes a flexible 25in. snake with a 648 x 488 (316k) pixels CMOS camera sensor at the end which measures just 8.3mm in diameter. Included software lets you capture images or even video to your computer’s hard drive and the camera is waterproof. The device is completely powered by a simple USB connection to your computer, which is even enough to power the four adjustable LEDs in addition to the camera.
