Power and Precision
The compact DeWalt Mid-Torque Impact Wrench features a brushless motor that provides up to 330 ft/lbs of fastening torque and up to 600 ft/lbs of breakaway torque. That doesn’t quite—by the numbers—reach the levels claimed by the latest Milwaukee Mid-Torque impact wrench. As always, we want to do our own testing before drawing any conclusions.
The DeWalt DCF896 has a variable speed trigger so you can control your speed manually. Of course, you can also use software to dial in your settings a bit more.
DeWalt Tool Connect Control
Speaking of precision, DeWalt integrated Tool Connect into the DCF896. Using the app, you get an app and cloud-based platform that lets you manage inventory, track tools, and customize your settings. In fact, you can program three customized modes using the app. Tool Connect gives you control over both forward and reverse speeds, letting you set up the tool for different fastener sizes and types.
Precision Wrench Mode
The DeWalt DCF896 also features the Precision Wrench and Precision Tap Modes. With the Precision Wrench Mode, you can program the impact wrench to automatically shut off after impacting for a set amount of time. This dials in your tightening consistency by allowing you to finish the job with a torque wrench when needed.
Precision Tap Mode – A First for Us
The Precision Tap Mode makes tapping threads faster and easier. It sets the tool to automatically alternate between forward and reverse. This eliminates the need to manually switch directions when tapping threads. We’ve never seen this before, so it will be fun to try it out and see how well it works.
Diagnostic Reports
Apart from the precision features of the DeWalt Mid-Range Impact Wrench, Tool Connect lets you receive diagnostic reports. You can track internal coin cell battery life, tool temperature, number of trigger pulls, and how long the tool has been running. It also lets you track your tool, providing the street address of where your tool was last seen in range of a Tool Connect-enabled device. You can even set the tool to disable when it’s out of range, helping to prevent theft.
DeWalt 20V MAX Mid-Torque Impact Wrench Pricing
You can pick up the DeWalt 20V MAX Mid-Torque Impact Wrench as a bare tool or kitted with two 5.0Ah batteries and a charger. It will run you $259 for the bare tool, or $429 for the kit.
