Makita Launches World’s First Cordless Cut-Out Tool with Wireless Dust Extraction

The Makita XOC02Z Cut-Out Tool improves upon the existing Makita XOC01Z, bringing a brushless motor and AWS wireless dust collection technology. Designed to cut through drywall, tile, wood, thin metal, and fiberglass, this tool is the first 18V cut-out tool with Makita AWS support. It lets you attach a compatible dust extractor for wireless activation. The new cut-out tool looks like an interesting choice for drywall installers, electricians, and plumbers who want longer run-time and a truly wireless jobsite.

Key Features

We expected all of that. The pleasant surprise—and the truly unique feature of the Makita Cut-Out Tool—definitely comes down to the AWS dust extraction. The tool comes AWS-capable, so it needs the optional Auto-Start Wireless Transmitter chip. With that in place, the XOC02Z can connect to a tool like the Makita AWS cordless dust extractor to keep the airborne dust to a minimum. This could really streamline your workflow since even a small dust extractor can typically keep up with small drywall cutout jobs.

The Makita XOC02Z also features a tool-less depth adjustment, twin LEDs for better visibility, an electric brake, and a slide witch that locks on for convenience. The vent slots look well-placed to direct air and debris away from you while cutting.

Availability

The Makita XOC02Z 18V Cut-Out Tool should run around $195 for the bare tool. That’s a bit more than the XOC01Z which goes for around $139. The additional cost covers both the brushless motor technology (which should deliver more run-time) and the AWS wireless system. Look for it to include the Makita 3-year warranty.
