Greenworks 60V Battery-Powered Hedge Trimmer Offers Simple Functionality and Excellent Performance
Greenworks 60V lineup is its high-performance bread and butter for residential lawn care. It’s been around long enough for most of the tools to have gone through at least the first major upgrades, and several are three generations in. We got our hands on the Greenworks 60V battery-powered hedge trimmer to see how its changes make for a better hedge trimming experience.
Pros
- Simple operation
- 180° rotating handle
- 26-inch knives
- Larger 1.2-inch cutting capacity
- Improved battery placement (top loading)
Cons
- 10+ pounds with a battery may be heavy for some users
Greenworks 60V Battery-Powered Hedge Trimmer Performance
Greenworks goes with a 26-inch dual-action blade for the brushless motor to drive. The “dual-action” designation simply means that it is able to cut in both directions and is a must-have feature.
The branch capacity is up to an impressive 1.2 inches—a significant improvement from the previous model’s 3/4-inch capacity. Some residential models move up to 1 inch while others are at 3/4-inch, putting Greenworks ahead of a lot of the competition.
The blades slice away at 3200 SPM, a speed that matches some commercial-level cordless models.
When it comes to actually trimming hedges, we don’t have any complaints about the cutting performance. The knives make quick work of well-maintained shrubs. When it comes to those that don’t get as much attention, the blades keep their speed up well and the additional capacity makes a big difference.
There’s no doubt that you can feel the weight of this tool, especially when you need to work at shoulder height. Without a battery, we weighed the Greenworks HT60L211 at 7.2 pounds. However, that’s almost 1/2 a pound less than the last version. With our 2.0 Ah battery, it bulks up to 10.1 pounds.
The 2.0 Ah battery is the way to go on this model. It balances the weight much better, drops the weight by more than 1.5 pounds compared to a 4.0Ah pack, and still gives you up to 45 minutes of runtime.
Greenworks 60V Battery-Powered Hedge Trimmer Design Notes
Rotating Handle
I really enjoy having a rotating handle on my hedge trimmers. It’s a big help when you’re trimming sides or angles and helps take some of the strain off of your back. To rotate the handle, drop your finger into the ring below the trigger and pull back. Then rotate the handle left or right into any of its 5 positions (180° of total rotation).
Simple Controls
You need safety measures on battery-powered lawn care equipment and the Greenworks 60V cordless hedge trimmer manages it without overcomplicating things. The trigger safety is on the front handle to ensure you have two hands on the tool. Just push it in with your natural grip, pull the trigger, and cut.
Battery Placement
There are only so many ways to install a battery on a hedge trimmer and we’re not a big fan of the side entry design on the last version. This update shifts to slide the pack down from the top and it’s much better.
Additional Highlights
- Includes blade sheath
Greenworks 60V Battery-Powered Hedge Trimmer Price
As a bare tool, the hedge trimmer runs $149.99 at Tractor Supply. The kit comes with a 2.0Ah battery and charger for $199.99—the same kit price as the previous model this one replaces. Either way, you get a 4-year warranty.
The Bottom Line
The Greenworks 60V battery-powered hedge trimmer is simple to use and has the performance to tackle tougher hedge trimming than many of its competitors. Adding a couple of design tweaks to go with the improved power while leaving many of the best qualities from the previous model makes this one of the best cordless hedge trimmers currently available.
