Makita just put out a new wet/dry vacuum it is dubbing the “Xtract Vac Jobsite Vacuum” (model VC4710). This 12 gallon vacuum is all about dust management and is powered by a 12 AMP motor that generates 135 CFM of suction power and an astounding 92″ of water lift. That’s a lot of suction. The new Makita Xtract Vac VC4710 is a great blend of power and low noise. It’s also tall, so it takes up less square footage on the ground, making it particularly easy to move around from room to room. The motor chamber on the Makita VC4710 vacuum is made with sound-absorbing materials, resulting in an operating sound level (SPL) of only 59 dB(A). And all that suction and storage fits into a package weighing just 27 lbs. Similar to many other vacuums we’ve seen, the rear wheels are set a bit larger and wider to allow for more stability during use. The front wheels are oversized steel casters allowing for easy maneuverability.
Editor’s Note: What is a Water-Lift Spec?
Water lift is a measurable spec that can be tested by measurement devices. But what it really represents is the equivalent of taking a tube, placing it vertically into the bottom of a container of water, and then attaching a vacuum hose to the top of the tube to measure how much water gets sucked into the tube.
Makita Xtract Vac VC4710 Features We Like
The Makita Xtract Vac VC4710 has a lot of features we’re used to seeing in high-quality dust extraction system, such as an on-board tool-activated outlet. This starts and stops the vacuum when the outlet detects current when using a power tool. The VC4710 also uses an Automatic Filter Cleaning System with blow-back feature that intermittently clears the filter to maintain optimal air flow and suction. Unlike simpler shaker or pulse filter cleaning systems, Makita’s blow-back process uses a rocker valve which isolates reverse air flow through each filter separately. The company claims this achieves a more efficient filter cleaning that has the added benefit of providing uninterrupted vacuum suction.
The Makita Xtract Vac VC4710 also features two flat main Nano filters designed to really improve efficiency while capturing 99.95% of particles size 2 microns and larger. There is also an optional Certified HEPA main filter that can capture 99.97% of particles size .3 microns and larger. We also love that the Xtract Vac comes with a 1-3/8″ x 16′ Anti-Static Hose–awesome for those using this in a shop or who otherwise require a long reach.
Makita also makes a ton of adapters to make sure you can use the VC4710 Xtract Vac with your planers, miter saws, table saws, routers, joiners and more.
