Bosch surprised us this week by releasing their new GLM 80, the company’s first Li-ion laser distance measurer. The Bosch GLM 80 laser distance measurer touts the ability to accurately measure heights and distances by laser. Bosch designed the GLM 80 with an integrated two-axis tilt sensor, so it can read angles whether it’s held horizontally or vertically. It also has an “indirect measurement mode” for taking measurements via calculation of distance and angle. How? It has a built-in tilt/level sensor that can be re-calibrated quickly for accuracy.
Bosch GLM 80 Laser Distance Measurer Features
The Bosch GLM 80 laser distance measurer comes with a non-removable Lithium-ion battery that can be recharged via its micro-USB port and is rated to take up to an astounding 25,000 measurements per charge. Not content with those features, Bosch says you can take the GLM 80 and lock it into their R 60 digital level attachment, turning it into a full-fledged Bosch digital level. The R 60 recognizes the insertion of the GLM 80 and works automatically.
The Bosch GLM 80 laser distance measurer itself features a back-lit display that lights up automatically with button presses. It measures length, area, and volume. It also features continuous mode as well as minimum, maximum, multi-surface area and multiple indirect lengths and angles. The GLM 80 can take measurements from its front, back, corner pin, and – unique for this tool – its tripod mount. You can even set a timer in the event you have to set up the laser distance measurer and make an on-site adjustment. The Bosch GLM 80 laser distance measurer has enough onboard memory to save 20 measurements for later recall.
Both the GLM 80 and the R 60 level accessory will be available at retailers and online August 1 and can be purchased as a package or separately. The GLM80 kit will come with a bag, micro-USB charger, quick-reference guide, and user manual. For more information please visit www.boschtools.com or call 877-BOSCH-99 (877-267-2499).
