Almost anyone that has ever used a power tool at some point in their life has used a Black & Decker or one of the many brands that is part of Black and Decker family. It might come as a surprise to some but DeWalt, Delta and Porter Cable are all actually part of the full Black and Decker power tool family. Even more interesting is that Kwickset Locks, Price Pfister Plumbing fixtures, Baldwin Hardware and Weiser Locks are also part of the Black and Decker family. The Black and Decker 100th anniversary is kind of a big deal in tools.
“Black & Decker – through a focus on customer needs and innovation – has become a part of the American landscape,” says Bruce Brooks, president of the consumer products group for Black & Decker. “We provide consumers with products that help make everyday living and working easier and more efficient. We’ve been doing it for 100 years, and we plan to continue doing so, with the same passion and innovation we’ve been known for.”
With pretty simple beginnings over one hundred years, Black & Decker has evolved from a small machine shop located in Baltimore, Maryland to a global manufacturing and marketing giant with a very broad line of products. Their power tools division, which was the start of it all, is now joined by a wide range of power tool accessories, outdoor yard care equipment, home cleaning products, automotive and lighting products, hardware, and home improvement products. Many of the products that Black & Decker have come up with have been innovative and popular. For example, in 1973 they came out with the Workmate portable work benches which still remain a top seller. In 1979 they came out with the Dustbuster which became a household staple.
Subsequently, many folks now call any small, hand held vacuum by this Black & Decker brand name. From patenting the first portable electric drill with pistol grip and trigger switch, to supplying the first drill to take samples from the Moon. Black & Decker has been a pioneer in power tools and home products innovation.
Not only has Black & Decker built really great brand recognition, they have also have products that are sold in nearly every major retailer in America and we are pretty sure that almost every home in America has at least one product that comes from this company. As time goes on, Black & Decker, will continue provide power tools, accessories, hardware, home improvement, and fastening systems that are both affordable and provide innovative solutions that make work more efficient and tasks easier to accomplish.
