Senco Specialty Fasteners Include New Stainless Steel and Aluminum Solutions
Senco is adding stainless steel and aluminum nails to their fastening lineup. Senco saw the need for stainless steel for applications where plain steel fasteners are receptive to rust and corrosion over time, especially when exposed to moisture. The latest Senco specialty fasteners will include a wider offering of 304 stainless steel, new 316 stainless steel, and new aluminum nails in 4 collations – zero degree plastic coil, 15 degree plastic coil, 15 degree wire weld coil, and 20 degree plastic strips.
Normally, a stainless steel contains 10.5% of chromium. It is the presence of chromium that keeps the steel alloy from readily corroding, rusting, or staining with water. However, they not fully stain-free in low-oxygen, high-salinity, or poor air circulation environments. The new Senco stainless steel nails contain more than the normal amount chromium to improve corrosion resistance better than normal blends.
The Senco 304 stainless steel fasteners have better acid and rust resistance. They contain 18% chromium and 8% nickel, among other elements. With these chemical properties, 304 stainless steel nails are an excellent choice for all types of environments and woods including exotic woods, cedar, or redwood. They are recommended if you are more than 5 miles from a body of water and are in a wet environment.
Senco 316 stainless steel fasteners have the best corrosion resistance qualities. These nails are Senco’s best bet for highly corrosive coastal environments and work well in all types of woods. They contains 16% chromium, 10% nickel, and 2% molybdenum. The addition of molybdenum and a higher nickel content increases the corrosion resistance properties. These are your go-to solution if you’re within 5 miles of a body of water, including ocean coastlines.
Senco is also introducing aluminum nails. Aluminum fasteners are ideal for soft woods, particularly cedar and redwood. The aluminum chemical properties help eliminate staining, bleeding, or streaking that can occur when using galvanized or plain steel fasteners.
