Several Ryobi Battery-Powered Lawn Mowers May Pose Fire Risk
If you own a Ryobi 40V HP battery-powered lawn mower, there’s a chance that it may pose a fire risk. Ryobi issued a recall after 97 reports of overheating, including five reports of fires, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
To help you see if you have one of the mowers in question, I’ll share which models are a concern and how you can file a claim if your mower qualifies.
Ryobi Mower Recall: Affected Models
This recall affects 10 different 40V Ryobi lawn mowers, with a total of around 217,500 models in the U.S.A. and roughly 28,400 models sold in Canada. The source of the risk in the recalled mowers is a push-on connector located inside the powerhead that can overheat.
All recalled models feature a black/gray mower deck. Models with green mower decks are not affected by this recall and do not pose a known fire risk.

If you own one of these models, check your serial number, too. Affected serial numbers are between KC21032D010001 – KC21327N999999.
If your mower is included in the recall list above, Ryobi will replace your model free of charge.
How to Find Your Model Number
To find the model number and serial number of your Ryobi mower, lift up the battery compartment. Under the compartment lid, there’s a data label with the information to determine if your model is part of the recall.
The model number starts with “RY40,” and the 14-digit serial number will start with “KC21.”
How to File a Recall Claim on Your Ryobi Mower
