Skil PWRCore 20 6 1/2-Inch Circular Saw Blends Performance, Easy Use, and Value
Skil has been a hallmark in the world of circular saws for many years, and they even introduced the circular saw concept to the market back in the mid 1920’s. So far, our experience with the growing PWRCore 20 lineup proves that you don’t have to spend big bucks to get good results. Today, I’ve got my hands on the redesigned Skil PWRCore 20 6 1/2-Inch Circular Saw to see how it performs here in our shop.

Speed and Cutting Power
The Skil CR6413 has a respectable top speed of 5,500 RPMs, which is a little faster than average for this type of saw. Its max cutting depth is 2-1/4 inches at 90° and 1-5/8 inches with the bevel set to 45°, allowing it to make full passes in 2x material easily.
During our testing, this saw displayed some real muscle. The brushless motor quickly powered the 18-tooth blade through our pressure-treated pine boards, and the saw even handled a few compound miter cuts without stalling. That’s a pretty big ask for a tool from a brand focused on DIYers, so we have to tip our hats to the design team over at Skil.
Blade Position
There is quite a bit of debate about blade-left vs blade-right superiority. Typically, 6 1/2-inch circular saws and rear handle 7 1/4-inch saws are blade-left, while many 7 1/4-inch sidewinder circular saws feature a blade-right configuration.
Interestingly, Skil redesigned this saw to be blade-left when the previous model (Skil CR5413) was blade-right. I can only speculate as to why they made this change, but I will say that this updated design offers excellent visibility and an unobstructed view of the cut line.
Skil PWRCore 20 6 1/2-Inch Circular Saw Design Notes

- Power Source: Skil PWRCore 20 battery
- Weight: 5.2 lbs (bare tool), 6.0 lbs (with kitted 2.0Ah battery)
- Shoe Material: Stamped steel

Size and Weight
This model weighs 5.2 pounds as a bare tool, 6.0 pounds with the kitted 2.0Ah battery, and measures 12.4 inches from tip to tail. Skil utilizes several plastic components, most notably the blade guard and cover. These parts are typically made from metal on premium Pro saws, but it’s common in the DIY class and those plastic components contribute significantly to the lighter weight.
The grip and front pommel are draped with a textured rubber overmold, and the spacing between the handles is quite comfortable. Overall, this saw is well-balanced and easy to use one- or two-handed.
Bevel and Cutting Depth Adjustments
When we inspected the cutting depth and bevel adjustment points, there weren’t really any surprises. However, both are tool-free and feature stamped markings that won’t rub off over time.
With its focus on serious DIYers, it’s missing some of the premium features we expect to find on professional-grade models, such as positive detents or metal adjustment hardware. That’s certainly no surprise, but as the saying goes, this saw’s got it where it counts!
Shadow Line LED Light
One of the coolest features of this saw is, without a doubt, the shadow line LED light. The LED is mounted inside the upper blade guard, allowing the blade to cast a perfect shadow onto your workpiece.
Skil also added an LED cleaning dial to the upper blade guard, ensuring you have the best visibility for every cut. This light inspires a lot of confidence when lining up on a tricky cut, especially for beginners.
Additional Features
- Electric brake
- Onboard hex wrench strorage
- Shoe is compatible with a rip fence
- Compatible with all Skil PWRCore 20 batteries
Skil PWRCore 20 6 1/2-Inch Circular Saw Price
The Skil CR6413 currently retails for $129 as a kit, which includes a 2.0Ah battery and charger. This price is very reasonable considering its overall power level and user-friendly design. At the moment, there are no bare tool options available.
Skil backs this saw with a 5-year limited warranty.
The Bottom Line
After getting some hands-on time with the Skil PWRCore 20 6 1/2-inch circular saw, it’s clear that Skil didn’t skimp on power. Its performance during standard and more high-demand cuts make an excellent case for serious DIYers who want to take advantage of a lighter, more compact 6 1/2-inch model. Plus, it’s a great option folks who want the most bang for their buck or even beginners who want to jump past entry-level options and start with a quality saw.
