Skil is taking a fresh look at their compact drill design with the introduction of the PWRCore 20 Compact Multi-head Drill Driver. The multi-head concept isn’t very common across the industry, but I think Skil hit the nail on the head. We’re taking a deep dive into this drill to see what it has to offer for the DIY market.

Drilling Power
Looking at the specs, this appears to fall right in line with what we expect from a compact drill driver. In fact, it’s identical to the Skil 20V Compact Cordless Drill (DL6293B) in terms of speed and torque.
This compact drill features a brushless motor, 18 clutch settings, and a two-speed gearbox. On low, you get a top speed of 500 RPMs, and that jumps to 1,800 RPMs when you kick it into high gear. Additionally, the torque maxes out at 450 in-lbs.
So what does all this get you in terms of real-world performance? Well, quite a lot!
Most of the standard drilling and driving tasks are on the menu, but even stepping up to a 1 1/2-inch spade bit didn’t put too much strain on this tool. With that in mind, the majority of your DIY projects and minor home repairs are well within reach for this drill.
Attachments
When I originally got my hands on this drill, I had one question on my mind… “Okay, so what about all of these attachments??” Well, the answer is actually a bit more creative than I originally thought.
Aside from the 3/8-inch drill chuck, these attachments feature a 1/4-inch hex drive, so you can use your standard hex shank drivers and bits. The hex bit holder attachment features a quick release collet like an impact driver, which makes it easy to switch between bits.
There are also magnets inside the right angle and offset attachments, as well as inside the drill’s attachment holder to keep your bits from falling out.
But, the real genius behind these attachments is that it gives you the ability to easily swap between implements in a matter of seconds. For instance, you could quickly go from drilling a pilot hole using the locking bit holder, and then switch over to the 3/8-inch chuck to drive in your fastener.
If you’re installing cabinets or assembling furniture, the right angle and offset attachments grant you access in tight spaces.
The point is, while there is some redundancy in drive size, the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. Plus, you can avoid buying additional tools.

Skil is marketing this drill as a part of their compact lineup, and boy, they aren’t lying! The QD6293 weighs in at 1.6 pounds as a bare tool, and just 2.6 pounds with the kitted 2.0Ah battery. It measures 5 inches from tip to tail without any of the attachments, and stands 9 inches tall, including the battery.
The grip sports a textured rubber overmold with large grooves that channel away sweat, and overall, it feels very well-balanced. The tool body looks pretty rugged and features large rubber bumpers on the motor housing for added drop protection.
LED Work Light
LED lights aren’t new to the industry, but Skil takes it one step further. They designed this drill with a diffused LED light on the base of the tool, but it also doubles as a work light that you activate without pulling the trigger. The light can run for up to 10 minutes, which is convenient when working in low light conditions.
