Rounding out their drilling and driving category is the Ingersoll Rand W3111 1/4-Inch Impact Driver, delivering power and finesse all in one package.

Ingersoll Rand W3111 1/4-Inch Impact Driver Performance

  • No-load Speed: 2,800 RPM
  • Max Torque: 3180 in-lbs
  • Impact Rate: 4200 IPM
  • Collet: 1/4 in.

Power and Speed

The Ingersoll Rand W3111 utilizes a brushless motor to deliver more power and faster speeds compared to a brushed model. It churns out up to 2,800 RPMs, 3,180 in-lbs of torque, and has a max impact rate of 4,200 IPM. These specs are right in line with what I expect from a Pro-grade impact driver, ensuring you’ll have plenty of power to get the job done right.

Brushless Motor

This impact driver has three modes that vary in speed, impact rate, and torque. These modes give you a ton of versatility around the jobsite, and allows you to dial back the power when necessary.

We tested it in both drilling and driving applications. On the drilling side, we easily powered through 2x using a 1/2-inch twist bit as well as a 3/4-inch spade bit, essentially converting our rather expensive lumber to Swiss cheese. Impact drivers still aren’t my go-to for all drilling applications, so I’d still recommend getting the IR 20V Cordless Hammer Drill. However, this impact driver can handle a lot of your drilling needs if you want just one tool, or don’t want to make an extra trip back to the toolbox.

Turning our attention to driving capabilities, it unsurprisingly handled small screws and 3-inch lag bolts without any difficulty. Even with larger 8-inch GRK structural screws, the IR W3111 had no problem setting them in our OSB test block. This gives me a lot of confidence in its ability to take on tough fastening tasks under the hood, or wherever the job takes you.

Size and Weight

The W3111 impact driver weighs in at 2.3 pounds as a bare tool and 3.9 pounds with a 5.0Ah battery. It measures 5.2 inches from tip to tail and stands just over 10 inches tall, including the battery. This combination is incredibly well-balanced and easy to maneuver in tight spaces such as engine bays and wheel wells.

rubber overmold grip

The grip is draped with IR’s unique rubber overmold that really helps you maintain a secure hold on the tool. Even more than the overmold, I LOVE the ergonomics. IR slightly recessed the front of the grip to make room for your fingers, giving it a slimmer profile and a more comfortable feel.

360° LED Light

Ingersoll Rand W3111 1/4-Inch Impact Driver LED light

The LED light isn’t something that normally stands out on a cordless impact driver. However, you’ll notice the difference with Ingersoll Rand’s design. Instead of putting a light on the foot, there’s an LED ring surrounding the collet. Unlike other models that use a similar placement, there’s also a diffuser around the halo. The result is a full, even lighting of your work area.

Ingersoll Rand W3111 1/4-Inch Impact Driver Price

This impact driver retails for $169.99 as a bare tool and $403.99 as a kit. The kit includes one 2.5Ah battery, one 5.0Ah battery, and a single-port charger. IR backs the W3111 with a 3-year warranty.

The Bottom Line

If you’re shopping for a compact cordless impact driver, you want one that’s as versatile, durable, and powerful enough to thrive in the shop or on a jobsite. That’s precisely what the Ingersoll Rand W3111 offers. Its performance competes at the top of the compact class, and it’s built to last. Add in solid ergonomics and that fantastic 360° LED and you have a top-tier cordless model from a brand that knows impact tools.
