Ariat Stump Jumper BOA Work Boots Review

Ariat Stump Jumper BOA Work Boots

The Ariat Stump Jumper BOA Work Boots Delivers All Day Comfort and Support

I’m a pretty big fan of Ariat work boots. So when I got the opportunity to put my feet in a pair of the newest Ariat Stump Jumper BOA Work Boots, I jumped at the chance to put ’em to the test. Since this is my first time using the BOA system, I’m eager to see how they compare to a traditional lace-up boot.

Pros

  • Easy to lace up
  • Short break-in period
  • Comfortable for all-day wear
  • Sturdy leather construction
  • True-to-size fit
  • Goodyear welt construction

Cons

  • A little more expensive than comparable models

BOA Fit System

If you’re new to the BOA fit system, it’s a lacing design that uses a thin cable that adjusts with a ratcheting twist mechanism at the top of the boot. One of the reasons I like it so much is that small adjustments throughout the day are simple. Your feet swell as the day progresses, so making those minor adjustments is much faster and more convenient than having to untie and retie the laces.

The system is easy to manipulate, but I did have the BOA dial hang up on releasing the cables on one boot occasionally. If that happens, you just need a little extra tug to get it to release. Most of the time, though, it was quick and easy to remove and put the boots back on and cinch up the cable. I also like that the cable system made the entire boot feel evenly snug with no pressure points or loose areas.

Comfort and Fit

When it comes to work boots, I typically wear a size 11 regular, so that’s what I ordered. To me, the sizing feels spot on, and there’s plenty of room in the toe box if you’re wearing thicker socks.

These boots a fairly comfortable right out of the box, and the break-in period was much shorter than I expected. When it comes to 8-inch leather boots, I typically expect a week or two of sore feet, but the Stump Jumpers were good to go after about two days of all-day wear.

Construction

The Stump Jumpers feature Goodyear welt construction, one of the most durable methods currently available. We prefer this for its excellent durability, water resistance, and overall longevity. It typically requires some breaking in, but it holds up much better than mainstream cement construction.

The ATS Max system combines roughly 8 layers—perhaps more—to deliver a truly comfortable experience on uneven terrain. Under your feet, you have a removable Energy Max anti-fatigue insole and a FLX Foam midsole for added comfort, support, and impact resistance.

Ideal for more extreme conditions, these boots have a rugged outdoor tread and protective Exguards on the toe and heel. The sole is also oil and slip-resistant, providing maximum wear resistance. Additionally, the full-grain leather upper provides support and protection, while the 50% recycled polyester lining offers great insulation and is environmentally conscious.

Additional Features

  • Composite safety toe
  • ASTM F2413 Electrical Hazard resistant

Ariat Stump Jumper BOA Work Boot Price

These boots retail for $269.95 and you can find them at your local Ariat retailer. They come in 1/2 sizes from 7-12, and whole sizes up to 15 from there. Like most work boots, you have D regular and EE wide widths.

There’s also a standard lace-up, pull-on, and 6-inch versions of the Stump Jumper. For our neighbors up north, there’s an 8-inch lace-up version that meets CSA safety standards.

The Bottom Line

Ariat has a history of making great footwear—everything from casual wear, western boots, and more traditional work boots. For me, the Ariat Stump Jumper Work Boots stand out from other boots I’ve worn, and that’s primarily thanks to the BOA fit system. The design team made a great move forward by pairing this unique lacing system with the rugged Stump Jumper. If comfort and durability are high on your priority list, we highly suggest giving these boots a try.
