Maven B.7 Compact Binocular Design
If you’re new to Maven, they are a direct-to-consumer brand with no middle man, so there’s no retail markup on their wide of scopes, binoculars, rangefinders, and other gear. The B-series is their premium line, using the highest quality materials to offer the best sight picture available.
The B.7 is the compact model in the line, measuring just 4.8 inches long and folding to a width of 2.9 inches. Part of what helps it fold up so small is the dual pivot points, rather than the single you see on the similarly sized C.2. The weight is a very manageable 12.4 ounces.
Optically, there are two models to choose from—an 8 x 25 or a 10 x 25. You can also get it with a grey and orange color scheme, or black and grey. The model we’re featuring in this review is the 10 x 25 in the grey/orange color.
So it’s compact, but there are plenty of compact binoculars. What about the image quality?
Maven B.7 Compact Binocular Image Quality
Maven uses extra-low dispersion ED glass for the lenses and adds several layers of coating to them, including a phase correction and oil/scratch resistant coatings. Combined with a nitrogen internal purging and IPX7 construction, they’re designed to create a bright, high-contrast image with a fog-proof experience.
Without question, the Maven B.7 achieves their goal of outstanding visual clarity. In addition to the materials, a ±3.0 diopter helps you dial in even vision across both eyes and 4-position eyecups ensure you can see a full field of view with or without glasses, and across multiple eye relief preferences.
The biggest limitation is a function of the physical characteristics rather than any flaw in the design. With it 25mm objective lens, there’s an impressive 92% light transmission (93% on the 8x model). Where you’ll notice more drop off compared to other B-series models is in low light conditions. The twilight factor is 15.8 (14.1 for the 8x), and some of the other models in the line reach into the mid-20’s and even as high as 31.7 for the B.5.
Maven B.7 Compact Binocular Price
The 8 x 25 model runs $600 and the 10 x 25 model in $625. There’s also an option to customize and make one unique to you.
From a pricing standpoint, the B.7 may sound mid-range, but you really are getting a premium binocular. That’s the beauty of cutting out the middle man. That price is hundreds less than compact models from Zeiss and Swarovski, and the Maven B.7 has better overall visual quality.
The Bottom Line
In the compact class, the Maven beats its competition in image quality and absolutely buries them in price. The size makes these an outstanding option for travel, no matter what your outdoor passion is. Serious hunters may want to consider the low-light performance and whether another of the B-series with a higher twilight factor might be a better fit. Either way, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better compact binocular than the Maven B.7, and it’s highly unlikely you’ll be able to come anywhere close to the value Maven offers.
